Jesus’ Patience with the Clueless Disciples
Text: Luke 22: 31-38
Reflection and Question: Jesus’ last days in Jerusalem before his arrest are full of these kinds of exchanges between the disciples and Jesus. He tries to get them to understand the suffering that is about to come and they are clueless. They don’t get it. Nevertheless, they are carried along by events until the immensity of Jesus appearing after the crucifixion jolts them into action in a new way. Could there be a truth Jesus wants us to understand but we are as thick as the disciples? What might that be?
Prayer: Jesus, our Savior and Brother, please have the patience with us that You show to Your disciples. Whether we comprehend You or not, guide us to the fulfilling of your purpose as You led Peter and James and John. Amen.
This meditation is based on the Daily Lectionary Year 1 from the Book of Common Worship for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (1993).
